1899 release date and trailer for Netflix mystery
Emily Beecham and Anton Lesser (Game of Thrones) are among the British stars in the epic new ensemble drama.
Netflix has released the first trailer for 1899, and the German mystery thriller period drama looks dark and foreboding.
The clip features an immigrant steamer heading to the new world, when they encounter a mysterious second ship, the Prometheus, which has been missing for months.
It also features the repeated image of a black triangle, a geisha seemingly hiding from something, and Emily Beecham's character being strapped down onto a chair as she denies being insane. Jimi Hendrix's cover of Bob Dylan's All Along the Watchtower plays in the background.
The series is from the creators of acclaimed German science fiction thriller Dark – arguably one of the finest original series to ever stream on Netflix – Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar.
Netflix posted the trailer on its official Twitter account and shared the caption: "On their journey across the vast and treacherous Atlantic Ocean, the passengers of the Kerberos encounter the biggest mystery of their lives. Welcome to 1899, a deeply immersive new series from the creators of Dark."
1899 – which stars Beecham (The Pursuit of Love) and Anton Lesser (AKA Qyburn in Game of Thrones) – is an epic mystery series that's set to arrive on the streamer on 17th November.
Netflix recently shared a short clip which was posted on Twitter, and although it doesn't give too much away, it has certainly heightened our anticipation ahead of the show's debut.
Scored by some especially eerie music, it shows a ship as it appears to be drawn towards a mysterious triangular void in the middle of the ocean – along with the caption: "What is lost will be found."
Intrigued? We certainly are! You can see the poster below.
